Mr Ellis qualified from Birmingham University in 1991 and after a series of junior hospital positions and general practice undertook an MSc at Manchester University and completed the dental fellowship in 1997.  He undertook a five year specialist training position at Sheffield Dental Hospital and Leicester General Hospital with secondments to Oslo cleft centre, Gothenburg implant clinic and the Morrison maxillofacial unit. In 2003 he completed the specialist fellowship at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and was accredited as an NHS Consultant and entered on the Specialist Lists.

He was a consultant at Torbay Hospital (2003-09) and Poole Hospital (2009-22) as part of the head and neck oncology multidisciplinary team.  Alongside his hospital positions he worked in specialist practice and established a restorative and implant dentistry referral service in Dorchester in 2004 relocating to the South Coast on its opening in 2013.  He receives referrals for all aspects of restorative dentistry, provides expert opinion for medicolegal cases and teaching for post-graduates and general dentists.

His philosophy is to offer a full dental appraisal and advice to patients where there is uncertainty on how best to progress and provide specialist treatment when required maintaining close collaboration with the patient’s Dentist for long term care and maintenance.
